SOCIAL MEDIA REACTS: Melbourne Storm vs Sydney Roosters
The NRL weekend started on Thursday with a repeat of the 2018 Grand Final between Melbourne and Sydney. These two sides have played out some great games of late, but yesterday, they raised by the bar!
Pre-Match
Fox League commentator Andrew Voss set the scene, and made a bold prediction for the outcome!
For two sides known for their brilliance, it was ironic that two mistakes led to two early tries!
A late Sydney Roosters try from the evergreen Josh Morris gave the Roosters a six point half time lead!
Sydney were unbeaten since the season restart and it looked as though that would carry on as the opened up a 10 point lead.
We were all feeling pretty pumped after watching the game, but probably not as pumped as the punter who laid this bet!
Natalie, what on earth were you thinking?!

Meanwhile, it was great to see fans back in the stadium. Oh wait...were they fans?!Here we go again folks. Since Trent Robinson became @sydneyroosters coach in 2013, they have played the @storm 15 times. Heading into tomorrow night's game on @FOXNRL they have scored exactly 256 points each in total in those games!!! I'm calling golden point!!! #nrlstormroosters— Andrew Voss (@AndrewVossy) July 1, 2020
Opening SalvoFuck those cardboard cutouts are getting more realistic every week.#NRLStormRoosters— It's me, Dave (@cricketflog) July 2, 2020

— NRL (@NRL) July 2, 2020But it didn't take Melbourne long to hit back...
— NRL (@NRL) July 2, 2020Luke was quick (although not as quick as the fox) to make a very accurate observation!

They score tries for fun these Morris boys !#NRLStormRoosters#TelstraPremiership pic.twitter.com/Aw3QySJJmT
The game took place at the Suncorp Stadium, home of Brisbane and many Twitter users did not waste the opportunity to stick the boot into the Broncos! These Morris brothers.— Geoff M (@GeoffM75) July 2, 2020
I swear, they are "Benjamin Buttoning" - they just get better and better.#nrlstormroosters
A Manic EndingMust be weird for the crowd at Suncorp to be enjoying a good game of footy.#NRLStormRoosters— Joseph. (@Jjos_ephh) July 2, 2020

— NRL (@NRL) July 2, 2020But a quickfire double put Melbourne back in front!
Then Sydney retook the lead through a penalty and field goal! Luke Keary looked to be the matchwinner!BRUH!!! This game— NRL (@NRL) July 2, 2020

Hand up if you thought the Chooks had won it with this!?#NRLStormRoosters#TelstraPremiership pic.twitter.com/zKYji7dWwR— NRL (@NRL) July 2, 2020
But Ryan Papenhuyzen had other ideas!Luke Keary would be first player picked for me in any rep team. Personally I know he plays 6... but despite his number, Luke Keary is clearly the best halfback in the game. He plays both sides of the field, identifies weakness. Plays direct & at speed. Outstanding.— The Magic Man (@CamMagicMan) July 2, 2020

Golden point saw Sydney concede a penalty in front of the posts! Both of those Field Goals were absolutely ridiculous.— The Rugby League Whisperer (@NRL_Oracle) July 2, 2020
This game is absolutely ridiculous.
I'm still trying to come to terms with it.
Long live Rugby League. #NRLStormRoosters

It was the sort of match that makes you want to get a rugby ball in your hand! And to think... some people DON'T like rugby league 🤷♂️#NRLStormRoosters https://t.co/54a3nR8SB6— The Tryline (@TrylineUK) July 2, 2020
One Happy PunterJust finished #NRLStormRoosters on slight delay. Hard to disagree with @AndrewVossy that “this game is from another universe”. And every match being live means I’ve now got an NRL obsessed five-year-old who bounces out of bed in anticipation four days a week, rugby ball in hand— Gareth Walker (@garethwalker) July 2, 2020
We were all feeling pretty pumped after watching the game, but probably not as pumped as the punter who laid this bet!
