Tryline Watchalong 11 - Hull FC vs Wakefield 2004

This week's watchalong featured the opening game to the 2004 play offs, an eliminator between Hull FC and Wakefield. Hull FC had made the play offs before, but struggled. Meanwhile, this was new territory for Wakefield.

A Frantic Opening

The first few minutes saw a Wakefield try disallowed, a yellow card for Ben Jeffries, an awful, unpunished spear tackle by David Solomona and a simple penalty missed by Hull FC. That was all in the first seven minutes! Despite this, Wakefield took the lead.

After conceding six early penalties, Wakefield found themselves down to 11 men, Gareth Ellis the next man in the bin. Unsurprisingly, Hull FC took advantage.

Half Time
Hull FC extended their lead courtesy of a penalty to open up a healthy 8-point lead by half time.
The Wakefield Blitz
After half time, Wakefield stunned Hull FC with three tries in 10 minutes to turn the game on its head.

A Nervy Ending
Wakefield extended their lead courtesy of a Paul Handforth penalty, but a Ewan Dowes try put the game in the balance going into the final 10 minutes.
There was time for one final score, as Wakefield sealed their progress to the next round of the play offs.
