Tryline Watchalong 6
As we are doing every Saturday night through the season suspension, last night, we watched back a classic match with our Twitter followers.
Last week, it was a Challenge Cup Semi Final. This week, we watched one of the greatest shocks in cup history as Sheffield defeated Wigan in 1998. If you missed it, you certainly didn't miss out! This blog is here to capture the best bits.
Sheffield's Blistering Start!
This wasn't how it was supposed to be! Sheffield took a lead within five minutes!

Wigan play the ball to nobody and give Sheffield a big chance. A scruffy pass goes wide to Crowther, but he squeezes in at the corner! Sheffield lead by 10!

Wigan did reduce the gap by two as half time approached...

Sheffield doing well at slowing down the play the ball, but they lie on too long this time. That gives Andy Farrell a shot at goal. He makes no mistake. The gap is reduced.

With seconds left in the first half, Mark Aston sends over a drop goal to extend the lead. The half time hooter sounds, and Sheffield are half- way to a seismic shock win!

By the 50 minute mark, Sheffield had scored another! The lead now stood at 15 points. No side had ever overturned such a lead in Challenge Cup Final history.

Unbelievable! Wigan make another mistake. Sheffield punish them again. Turner goes low from dummy half, the arm snakes out and the in-goal official is perfectly placed to award it.

The Wigan Resurgence
Inevitably, Wigan came back. A Mark Bell try gave them a lifeline!

A fast response from Wigan. Their attack looked sharper on this occasion and Mark Bell in an acres of space to get Wigan back into the game.

Firstly, Robinson crosses for Wigan, but there's a knock on in the build up.
Later, a forward pass denies Gary Connolly.
Then Farrell is held up by three Sheffield defenders!

As the seconds ticked by, it became clear that Sheffield were on course for their first ever major trophy, and as the final hooter sounded, the celebrations begun! It's fair to day that Mark Aston was ecstatic!
