#SocialMediaReacts - World Club Challenge
St Helens threw all they had at Sydney Roosters in last night's World Club Challenge. But they could not break them down and Sydney proved why they are the best in the world.
Here's how the rugby league community on Twitter saw the action!
Pre-Match
There were so many key battles and subplots you could focus on before the game, however it was Phil Clarke's bold fashion statement that stole the show!
St Helens also tried to build the pre-match atmosphere with this display:
St Helens made the perfect start with Luke Thompson crashing over after just 6 minutes.
20 Minutes - Sydney Fight Back
You can't keep a champion side like Sydney down for long though, and two quickfire tries saw them hit the front.
Sydney dominated the remainder of the first half, but St Helens held firm to keep the deficit at just two points
St Helens had plenty of chances at the start of the second half, but could not break down a resilient Sydney defence.
But just like in the 2019 NRL Grand Final, Sydney soaked up the pressure and then retaliated by landing the knock out blow.
Despite a late consolation score for St Helens, it was Sydney who were crowned World Club Champions.
However, despite defeat, St Helens fans remained rightly proud of the brave effort their team put in!
After the medals were handed out, and the trophy presented, we were then all reminded of the real reason to tune in...to watch Trent Robinson talk about rugby league!

I could take up pages and pages with amusing Phil Clarke comparisons, but there is a match to focus on too! Forget the indepth analysis. That is an awesome first half. The queue for the bog is very respectable, we’re all on it, Tedesco has never wagged an RE lesson in his life. Let's stick to these Aussie knob'eads. @RedVeeDotNet #COYS— The Last Days Of KR (@LastDaysKR) February 22, 2020
8-6 down at the half - wind in our faces. We’re giving a good account of ourselves so far. Your thoughts?— RedVee.Net (@RedVeeDotNet) February 22, 2020
HT obs: 1. Tackling high looks like a Roosters strategy 2. JWH particularly guilty. Should be in the bin 3. Not enough go-forward from Saints. That will probably tell. 4. Thought they'd go at our left edge more. 5. Still in it but hanging on a bit.— That Saints Blog You Quite Like (@TSBYQL19) February 22, 2020

The fact that we’ve all woke up gutted not to have won that game last night, yet can look back at it and see a path to victory if things had gone our way shows just how far we’ve come, how good we are and how proud we all should be today of everyone at the club— RedVee.Net (@RedVeeDotNet) February 23, 2020
