Super League Fixture Reveal: 10 dates you MUST NOT miss
The Super League season ended less than one month ago, but with the fixtures already released, the excitement can start to begin again.
Here are 10 must not miss dates for your diary.
1. The Opening Day - Weekend of 30/01/2020
Last year saw derby games adorn the opening day and this year's season is set to get off with a bang too.
Friday sees a repeat of the Grand Final between St Helens and Salford. On the opening night, we will be treated to a battle between two of this year's favourites, Wigan and Warrington.
Then on Sunday, Toronto will face Castleford in their first ever Super League fixture. This forms part of a Headingley double header alongside Leeds vs Hull FC.
2. Round 2 - Weekend of 06/02/2020
2. Round 2 - Weekend of 06/02/2020
If week 1 looks good then week 2 is even better. It includes the blockbuster fixtures of a Hull derby and Warrington vs St Helens!
3. Easter - Weekend of 09/04/2020
Easter has a very different look for 2020. The double header is a thing of the past. Instead we have the fixtures spread out over the whole weekend, with all of the UK based fixtures live on Sky.
We have the traditional big derbies with St Helens hosting Wigan and the second Hull derby of the season.
4. Toronto's First Home Fixture - 18/04/2020
Super League will break new ground with its first game in Canada in April 2020. Hull FC are likely have the honour of being the first team to travel to Toronto. It promises to be quite the occasion.
5. Magic Weekend - 23/05/2020 and 24/05/2020
The Magic Weekend is back in Newcastle and back on a Bank Holiday weekend! Newcastle has posted the biggest crowds for Magic Weekend's since its inception and fans have welcomed the event's return to the North East.
Here are the fixtures:
Keep an eye out for Newcastle Thunder's fixture on the Friday before the Magic Weekend when the League 1 fixtures are released too!
6. Catalans in Toulouse - 30/05/2020
Catalans took an on-the-road to Barcelona last year and set a Super League record attendance. This year, Catalans return to Toulouse for the first time since they faced Hull KR there in 2013.
Catalans this year face Leeds in a double header at Stade Ernest Wallon in Toulouse. The Championship club will host a match at the same venue on the same day.
7. Challenge Cup Final - 18/07/2020
Not strictly Super League, so technically outside the remit of this blog, but nonetheless one of the biggest dates in the rugby league calendar.
For the first time in the competition's history, the final will take place in July. Will this change lead to a boost to the recent ailing final crowds?
8. The Final Day - Weekend of 10/09/2020
This year's Super League final day was one of the most anticipated in history. The last Super League play off place was decided and four sides battled to avoid the one relegation place.
There's a lot of water to go under the bridge before then, so who knows which will be the most significant fixture on that day?
And for the first time ever, each fixture is scheduled to kick off on the same day at the same time. About time too!
9. Start of the Play Offs - Weekend of 17/09/2020
The return to the top 5 system in 2019 saw some shock results. Not many would have predicted Castleford travelling to Warrington and knocking their host out.
Even fewer would have predicted Salford being the first side ever to reach a Grand Final (in a top 5 system) from outside the top two.
It's a long way off yet, so we'll have to wait and see what drama the play offs will bring this year!
10. Grand Final - 10/10/2020
The highlight and climax of the Super League calendar. Will we see another surprise name make the showpiece event? Will we finally see a new name inscribed on the Super League trophy?
Dreams come true and are shattered on this occasion as a season's work goes on the line. Who will dazzle under the lights and be crowned Super League champions for 2020?
